National
Geographic Traveler I found a wonderful little stretch of backroad near Gainesville, Florida; it
was featured in my March 2007 article "Finding True Florida." In March 2008, the magazine published
my discoveries in the mountain resort town of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, in "Ah, Springstime!"

| Sheila Scarborough and Wendy Perrin at the Readers' Choice Awards |
Wendy Perrin, Consumer News
Editor for Condé Nast Traveler, worked with her staff to fly me
to New York to live-tweet the magazine's 2008 Readers' Choice Awards on Twitter.
Live coverage of an event doesn't
just mean on television anymore - social media platforms like blogs and Twitter allow some of the same sense of immediacy.
Such coverage also brings a publication to an entirely new audience of readers.
I also blogged about the Awards, of course.

One of the pleasures of travel is happening upon something completely unexpected and enjoyable, and
having it turn out to be the highlight of a trip.
The Dallas Morning News travel section
published my account of pretty Jamesport, Missouri, one of the largest Amish enclaves in the Midwest.
I
knew when I parked my van next to a bunch of buggies at a produce auction that this story would just about write itself: Amish
enclave in Missouri hews to old ways

I've
written a wide-ranging set of articles about educational travel for Education.com.
Here are some of my favorites:

My
article about seeing Tokyo with a pre-teen (based on a trip to Japan with my daughter) was featured in the travel section
of the San Antonio Express-News:
Navigating
Tokyo with a 'tween.
Away.com (the folks who bring you GORP and "Outside"
magazine) asked me for some insights on family adventure travel, and I was happy to write a short item for them about climbing
Japan's Mt. Fuji with my daughter.

a Lifetime: Climbing Mt. Fuji With a Preteen

My favorite city
in the world is probably Hong Kong, although it is certainly difficult to pick just one place.
Click the link to read
the PDF file of my article for GU Magazine, "Hong Kong Heaven" (please be patient; the download has a lot
of photos.)
