I've enjoyed writing for "Texas Highways;" my article on Texas drag racing was just published in the March 2008 issue, and I'll have a full PDF copy of it online soon.

Here's my first piece for the magazine, about my local donut joint that's been serving 'em up hot since the 1920's.

Round Rock Donuts: The Hole Story

My second article for the magazine covered a great central Texas honky-tonk, the Old Coupland Inn and Dancehall, where you can eat, sleep and boot-scoot.

I never used to pay much attention to sports, and my own personal participation was limited to mediocre but enthusiastic performances in fencing and triathlons.

Then I found college basketball, and the Madness began.

Here's my "Gainesville Sun" Op-Ed piece about The Dance: My Descent Into March Madness

My family and I love road trips (well, once we all get out the door and I stop hollering at everyone.)

About.com's "Travel With Kids" Web site published my account of our travels through the Great American South.

Coon Dog Cemetery, anyone?

How about Cajun boudin?

As a music buff, it was a pleasure to write a series of concert preview articles for the "Gainesville Sun" entertainment section, "Scene Magazine."

My favorite city in the world is probably Hong Kong, although it is certainly difficult to pick just one place. Click the link to read the pdf file of my article for GU Magazine, "Hong Kong Heaven."

My article about seeing Tokyo with a pre-teen (based on a trip to Japan with my daughter) was featured in the travel section of the "San Antonio Express-News."

I found a wonderful little stretch of backroad near Gainesville, Florida. Click to bring up the article and read all about it in the March 2007 issue of "National Geographic Traveler."
Finding True Florida

In the June 2006 issue of "Gainesville (FL) Magazine," I wrote a personal essay about my mid-life career change from seagoing Navy officer to freelance writer.

Click the pdf file link to see it in the Unexpected Turn section of the magazine (you may need to scroll down a bit.)

As a freelancer, I'm always looking for ideas and inspiration. When I had a few of my own, I had them published in the freelancer's e-zine "Absolute Write."

The Long and Winding Road to Freelance Success

Here's a humor piece in the Blog Herald about how I organize (or don't organize) my day for blogging....

How I Blog

Away.com (the folks who bring you GORP and "Outside" magazine) asked me for some insights on family adventure travel, and I was happy to write a short item for them about climbing Japan's Mt. Fuji with my daughter.

When is a restaurant an icon? Should it be saved from the development wrecking ball if it is?

Here are my thoughts about Austin's Las Manitas Avenue Cafe for "CHOW" magazine.

In Tacos Veritas

If you are interested in unique cooking vacations around the world, I wrote a short piece for "CHOW" called Pack Your Knives and Go.
